Lost paradise

By Ghanashyam Khadka

It is very pathological, very ugly, and very miserable that we have lost the capacity of laughing naturally. To laugh joke is needed, to laugh somebody has to fall down slipping on banana skin, to laugh your neighbor has to lose money! Other’s misery has become must to trigger the laughter in us!

It is the shame on the world’s self declared wisest creature who can’t be happy unless other cry. That is why people go on consoling whenever you weep. Go and weep at any corner of the world, you will find people eve ready to have pity on you. As if, they were waiting you for the ages! But laugh, be cheerful, nobody comes to you and join!
‘Why are you laughing?’ they yell at you, ‘Are you gone mad?’
Laughter has become something insane here. Strange world! This very people never say weeping is madness. Instead they come to console you even without asking the cause. They are not showing sympathy out of love. They are not really sorry. Though they make mouth outwardly in your sorrow, inwardly they are enjoying a lot. Their ego is very satisfied at the moment. Your sadness is the proof that they are in better condition. World still contains so many dismal people to whom they too can be of great help. No matter how much agony surrounds them, they are still in the condition of showing sympathy on other. Your sorrow and your tear is the great proof. Your sorrow is the greatest relief to their mundane life.

Have you ever noticed it? When you lose your things, your wife/husband goes away or you are upset for any reason, many Tom, Dick and Harry come and put their hands on your shoulder. They say that world is like this, that you are not the only one to be in this condition, that everything will be ok. It seems that they are the wisest person the world has ever witnessed. But all their wisdom evaporates when the snow of misery falls on their head. At that moment you go and have great sympathy on them. Now it is your turn. You say more things than you know. You preach them, you teach them and you pursue them to forget everything. You immediately become saint at the time of showing sympathy. Doing all this you too are trying to falsify your wound, trying to forget your pain and seeking an opportunity to laugh!
This is very inhuman in the name of something beautiful. To be compassionate is divine. To console the depressed is good. But is this really compassion? Is this real consolation? To have compassion you should not be troubled yourself, your heart should be blooming in joy, and you should be blessed. Only then the spring of love and compassion comes out of you. Otherwise whatsoever you say in the name of compassion and sympathy, it bounds to remain your trick to hide your own tear and pain. Can a man in prison set you free from prison? No matter how much affection he shows, the co-prisoner can’t be of any help to lead you out of the prison. Only the person out of prison may be the helpful to free you.
Only few people are in joy, capable of laughing from the very core of the heart. Otherwise almost whole of the humanity is lacking it. What do you need to be happy? Only a simple heart, innocent nature and content mind can smile. Only the person free from complains can enjoy the things he/she has.
Today’s human beings are very ambitious. Everybody wants to be something, extraordinary, rich and powerful. Nobody seems to be satisfied with their life. That is why there is competition, crime and war. By any hook or crook people want to be in power. Due to this mad race people have lost happiness. Humanity seems to forget its very nature, the laughter. Everywhere you see very gloomy eyes, so serious, so stiff, and so stony. And these people are running the state, leading the politics, teaching the children, preaching the crowd! What do you expect from them? Unhappy people can’t give happiness. You can’t give what you don’t have.
Laughter is only indicator of your happiness. Nothing else of the world can tell your cheerfulness. Money, power, position, fame and thousand and one thing for which you put your life in stake to achieve, are utterly impotent to appraise your glee.
Instead, rich people are more afraid. They are afraid of losing their money, are afraid of their competitors that they may become richer than them. They have very strong desire to multiply their property in many folds. Same law is applied to the politicians. They are always for power. Let alone the opposite parties’ leaders, they are afraid of their own fellow leaders. They have the fear that other may surpass them and take the lead. Prachanda is afraid of Baburam, Jhalanath is afraid of KP Oli and Ramchandra is afraid of Sher Bahadur. One has no trust to other. That is why this country has never got prime minister who has spent his full term.
Fear and desire is the main hindrance of the laughter. More you are afraid, more you become lifeless. More lifeless you are, more incapable of laughing you turn to be. And more incapable of laughing you are more interest you have to console other. That is what politicians are doing. They promise to bring peace, development and stability. They utter every sweet word in the world which is the greatest consolation to the poverty stricken mind. But have they done? Unhappy fellow always make false promise. Remember, a happy heart can’t lie. Have you ever seen our leaders laughing? Have you seen them in joy?
Laughter is the basic cell of your joy, an inseparable device to be bloomed in bliss, a fundamental unit for ecstasy. Except laughter, nothing else can measure your contentment. The more playful you are, happier you become. Happier you are, more lively you grow to be. Happiness has to be your very nature. Like the river it should be.
Laughter is the greatest gift possible that the nature has given human beings. Have you ever seen any donkey laughing? Have you? But we have completely forgotten the immensely valuable gift. Laughter is the paradise we have lost.
