We are what we think
All that we are arises with our thoughts
With our thoughts we make the world
Speak or act with impure mind
And trouble will follow you
As the wheel follows the ox that draws the cart
We are what we think
All that we are arises with our thoughts
With our thoughts we make the world
Speak or act with pure mind
And happiness will follow you
As your shadow unshakable
‘Look how he abused me and beat me
How he threw me down and robbed me’
Live with such thoughts, you live in hate
‘Look how he abused me and beat me
How he threw me down and robbed me’
Abondon such thoughts, and you live in love
In this world
Hate yet never dispelled hate
Only loves dispels hate
This is the law ancient and in inexhauistable
You too shall pass away
Knowing this how can you quarrel?
How easily the wind overturns the frail tree?
Seek happiness in senses
Indulge in food and sleep
And you too will be uprooted
The wind can not overturn the mountain
Temptation can not touch the man
Who is awake, strong and humble
Who masters himself and minds the law
If a man’s thoughts are muddy
If he is reckless and full of deceit
How can he wear the yellow robe?
Whoever is the master of his own nature
Bright, clear and true
He may indeed wear the yellow robe.
Twenty five years ago Gautam Buddha had uttered these words amongs monks and nuns. For the first time in human history, he had experienced a totally new world, the world of truth, the real world. Through these words he just shared his experience.
World is nothing than the reflection of our mind. Here Buddha is not talking about the world of trees, birds, rivers and floweres that science investigates. He has nothing to do with this world. Whatever he says about the world, he means the world of mind. And mind is nothing than desires and dreams which are eventually bound to be followed by deep frustration and great faliure. Hence he says:
We are waht we think
We make the world with our thoughts
All that we are arises with our thoughts
Just droup your all thoughts off, emty your mind and cease thinking. Then who are you? At this very moment of emtyness you can not be Hindu, you can not be Muslim, you can not be Asian, you can not be Republic and you can not be Democrat either.
