Life is a gift

By Ghanashyam Khadka

‘Uncle’ My little nephew of grade 7 greeted me as he came in. It was a cold winter morning. My attention from the book diverted by his presence. I was in a warm room trying to escape from the cold breeze blowing outside.

‘Yea’ after having a look in his twinkling eyes I broke the silence, ‘How the days are?’

Some strange traces of question mixed up of wonder and curiosity could be seen in his face.

‘Actually’ hesitatingly he spoke, ‘I want to know the difference between the love and attraction. Would you help me, please?’

I was little bit amazed. I had never expected such philosophical question from a little boy like him. It was quite difficult for me to answer the question in the way he could understand it perfectly.

‘Vijaya, there is a huge gap between them’ I told, ‘If you save an ant or insect from being crushed by your foot step, it is love. If you see beautiful shoes or cap in the market and long to posses it, it is attraction.’
‘And what about the relation between girl and boy?’ asked he.
‘Most of the time it is attraction’ was my answer, ‘People say- I love her because she is so beautiful. I like his dark eyes, and so on and so forth. It is not the love but the another form of hate because love does not need the reason. Only attraction needs it.’
I don’t know how much he understood. But he shook his head and said,’ I see, so lots of people don’t love.’
I perfectly agree with this little boy’s conclusion. People just talk about love. In reality they are murdering each other at least in mental level. Otherwise there would not be so much war, hatred and turmoil in the Earth. Life would not be in constant pain. Any form of attraction may it be of paradise, flower, girl or something else, is the cause of pain and sorrow.
Infact life is the greatest gift from the nature. It comes from the nature and goes back to the nature. A person aware of the fact can not be touched by the attraction. From the greatest stars to the smallest particles of invisible dust are of tremendous value for him.
